The handbook is a 272 page manual that takes the reader through all the steps necessary to become a superstar digital DJ/VJ. From the basics of how to be a DJ; sourcing tunes, song structure, beat-matching, mixing, compiling and producing visual imagery culminating in making your own music videos.

It is more than just a "How to DJ" book with technical information ranging from video formats and software to connecting up AV systems without bringing down the national Grid.

CHARLES KRIEL
Dr Charles Kriel (aka DVJ Kriel) was born to an American circus family, and spent his childhood travelling North America in make-up and big shoes.

Kriel is now an artist, producer and DVJ based in London. He is also the United Nations World Summit Awards National Expert in New Media.

In 2000, Kriel was appointed Artist-in-Residence at BBC Radio 1, collaborating with Pete Tong to create the world's first weekly VJ stream for the web. While there, he created the first live nationally telecast DVJ mix for BBC Three / BBCi as part of Glastonbury 2004, the same year he became the first Pioneer ProDVJ. The NME named him the world's leading VJ; he has featured in DJ Mag's Top 20, and was recently billed "the world's first superstar VJ" by The Times.

As a DVJ, he cut his teeth on the UK's major dance festivals, and these days you'll find him driving dirty dancefloors from Detroit to Ibiza to St. Petersburg. As a visual artist, Kriel's work has included installations and performances at the Venice Biennale, Tate Britain, the Royal Festival Hall and at the gallery of Tomato Design (that's the band Underworld). As a composer/producer, his works have seen premieres at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Royal Opera House, and Ars Electronica.

Kriel is also Sr. Lecturer in Digital Media, DASS, London Metropolitan University, where he is currently working on a one-man audio/visual show to premiere in Los Angeles, and is researching his second book.

Kriel is represented exclusively by Ultra DJ Management

"DVjing has helped put more of my personality and taste into my performances. Most of the clips I make myself and most of the visuals that I use are filmed by me on my travels, so in a weird kinda way it's like the audience is watching the world through my eyes and experiencing something I have while I'm playing my music."
James Zabiela
"DVJing for me is just another way to have more fun behind the decks. Another element to control and manipulate and another dimension to take the crowd into."
